Michael Heilemann of BinaryBonsai.com posted an article to Digg.com:

Take a snapshot of yourself at 15.00, 21.00, 00.00 and 03.00 on new years eve and post it to the internet as soon as possible after. Get as many others to do the same. Compare and contrast.

Farewell htklx2

[15:36:01] Irssi uptime: 171d 2h 38m 56s

That was the last message my Irssi said before I terminated it on the long serving host htklx2.htk.fi.

I received a message from the superuser of htklx2 on October 31st telling they are closing the server down because the volunteering team of admins has been transferred into new positions inside HPO my old ISP.

So here is my thank you for team taking care of the server very well. You’ve served us, the humble users, very well, sad it has to end like this.
I’ve been a user since June 7th of 2002 and I haven’t had anything to complain about.

Thank you.

Today, we mourn the passing of an old friend by the name of Common Sense.

Common Sense lived a long life, but died from heart failure at the brink of the Millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools; hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness.

For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in from rain, the early bird gets the worm and life isn’t always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it’s okay to come in second.

A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including feminism, body piercing, whole language and new math.

But his health declined when he became infected with the “if-it-only-helps-one-person-it’s-worth-it” virus. In recent decades, his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal legislation.

He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers and enlightened auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies; when reports were heard of six year old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; when a teen was suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch; when a teacher was fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even dramather when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but couldn’t inform the parent when a female student is pregnant or wants an abortion.

The Real Sound Of Progress

This is my coverage of mp3 blogs. all free new (legal) music flowing around the net. Free advertising for bands with good music :)

Take an active approach in finding music you love. Don’t let Clearchannel or MTV forcefeed you whatever music is “hot” this week. Find what you love and immerse yourself in it. Buy the CD. Go to the show. Meet your favorite artist after their show and give ‘em 20 bucks in exchange for the music you downloaded. Support the artists whose work you adore.

Be passionate about music. It’ll love you back.

This is what the first mp3-blog (link here) I’ve seen says to it’s users. And I totally agree this blogger-based journal filled with music. Some of the tracks I’ve listened to, and a lot of I’ve never even heard of.

aurgasm brings to you an eclectic menagerie of aural pleasures. I scout out music you’ve never heard and deliver only the finest.
Expect music curiously different, yet simply enjoyable.

I want music to move me. I listen to how it sounds and consume how it feels. I want it to groove my soul, wrench my heart, nod my head, or fascinate my brain.

It really makes me sad to see Avril and Britney are collecting the souls of potential users/listeners/buyers of good music. Don’t get me wrong, there’s couple of songs by Britney even I like, and it’s a rare thing, just because pop generally produces look-alikes, clones of clones who worship someone in the teen-magazine covers… plastic.

But hey, it’s a free land ;) Everybody listen to what you like, just remember there is so much more than MTV ;)
